This course provides a straightforward route to a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) award for students who have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) only or are on a course leading to QTS only. The PGCE is an academic qualification focusing on developing teaching skills. You don’t need a PGCE to teach in England, although you may find it helpful as it will give you more options as your career progresses – enhancing your promotion prospects or enabling you to teach abroad.

PGCE Non-Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Modules
- PG7020 Active Enquiry and Intervention Impacting upon Learner Progress
- PG7021 Developing Subject Expertise and Subject Specialism
Employability
If you are a qualified teacher who already has a Qualified Teacher Status Course (QTS), but not the PGCE academic qualification QTS (PGCE Qts) sometimes comes with, you will find this course useful in progressing your career. Unqualified teachers currently enrolled in a program leading to QTS – for example under the School Direct salaried program – can also benefit. Having gained the PGCE (non-QTS) qualification, you might, for example, want to change jobs, or teach in another part of the UK, or even in another country. You may even decide to go on and do a Masters’s degree.
